Starting therapy is a big decision—and it’s totally normal to have questions. Whether you’re exploring EMDR, working through religious trauma, or just trying to find someone who gets what it’s like to live with anxiety, this page is here to help. I want you to feel informed, supported, and empowered as you take this next step. Below are answers to some of the most common questions clients ask when they’re thinking about working with me.

Getting Started With Therapy

Not sure where to begin? You’re not alone. These questions come up all the time—and they’re welcome here.

  • If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected, these might be signs that counseling could be beneficial for you. The decision to seek therapy is a personal one and often comes when you feel you're at a crossroads. If you're unsure, I offer that free 15-minute, non-judgmental space to explore whether therapy with me is the right step for you.

  • The first session is a space for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss your expectations for therapy, identify your goals, and outline a treatment plan tailored to your needs. It's also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapeutic process. Our sessions will be a collaborative space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly. We'll work together to uncover insights and foster self-acceptance.

  • If you or I feel that the therapy isn't yielding the desired outcomes, we can discuss alternative treatment options or referrals. Your well-being is my primary concern, and I'm committed to helping you find the best path to healing.

  • No. We’ll go at your pace. Some people want to dive in, others need time to build safety first. We’ll focus on what feels most helpful and supportive in the moment.

  • That’s more common than you think. I’ll help guide the session and ask the right questions, even when you’re feeling foggy, unsure, or stuck in your head.

  • Yes. Therapy is your space, and you’re always in charge. If something doesn’t feel like a fit, we can talk it through—or I’ll help you find another path forward.

  • That happens more than people admit. My approach is a little different—it's more experiential, trauma-informed, and collaborative. We’ll find a way that actually works for you.

Session Structure & Availability

Therapy should support your life—not add more stress to it. Here’s what to expect.

  • Therapy sessions with me are approximately 60 minutes in length. I find this length allows both of us to dive deep into the issues at hand, so you start feeling better quickly, while also respecting your time.

  • The frequency of sessions will depend on your specific needs and the plan we develop together. Most of my clients benefit from weekly sessions to work toward their goals at a good pace.

  • I track outcomes with my clients and consistently see the best results with weekly sessions. While other therapists may have success with bi-weekly appointments, I’ve found that the regular support and momentum of weekly sessions really make a difference. That said, for clients who have been with me over a year and have built a strong foundation in our work, I do sometimes consider a shift to bi-weekly sessions on a case-by-case basis. I'd be happy to revisit this option down the road to ensure it aligns with your ongoing needs and goals.

  • The duration of your counseling journey is tailored to your unique needs and the goals we establish together. Think of therapy as a sacred space for personal growth; we'll consistently evaluate your progress to ensure you're on the right path. Many of my clients opt for deep, transformative work and stay with me for six months or longer, others have found ongoing sessions over several years beneficial for personal and relational growth.

  • Absolutely, I get that NYC life is always on the go. That's why I offer flexible scheduling options, including early mornings and evenings, to fit into your busy schedule. Please note, however, that weekend appointments are currently not available.

  • It’s okay if that happens. I’ll help you slow down, ground, and find your way back to safety. We don’t push through—your nervous system sets the pace.

  • Sometimes, if it feels helpful. Some clients like tools or grounding practices to try between sessions. Others just need space to process in session. We’ll figure out what supports you best.

Fees, Insurance, and Reimbursement

The logistics matter. Here’s how to navigate the financial side of therapy.

  • The fee for a 60-minute therapy session is $250. Additional services and longer sessions have different rates, which we can discuss in detail. I understand that finances can sometimes be a barrier to accessing therapy, so I offer some of my available time slots to clients needing sliding fees on a case-by-case basis under certain circumstances. Please feel free to discuss your situation with me.

  • I would be considered an out-of-network provider and do not directly accept insurance. Many insurance plans can offer reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services. I can provide you with receipts for services rendered, which you can then submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

  • As an out-of-network provider, I can supply you with detailed receipts suitable for insurance reimbursement. Here are some steps to guide you through the process:

    1) Contact Your Insurance Provider: Before starting therapy, it's advisable to contact your insurance company to inquire about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

    2) Ask the Right Questions: Find out what percentage of the fee they will reimburse, the number of sessions they cover, and if there are any deductibles you need to meet.

    3) Get Pre-Authorization: Some insurance companies require pre-authorization before you begin therapy. Make sure to complete any necessary paperwork.

    4) Submit Claims: After each session, I will provide you with a detailed receipt, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Make sure to keep copies for your records.

    5) Follow Up: It's a good idea to follow up with your insurance company to ensure your claim is being processed and to find out when you can expect reimbursement.

By following these steps, you can navigate the reimbursement process more smoothly.

Who I Work With & How

Therapy with me is affirming, flexible, and human. Here’s more about who I work with and how I show up.

  • All are welcome! That being said, I specialize in working with individuals, particularly those in the LGBTQ+ community, who are grappling with issues related to anxiety, identity, relationships, career, trauma and spirituality. Because I provide online therapy, I am available to work with anyone located in New York State and Connecticut.

  • Of course! Being a member of the LGBTQ community myself, I want to espouse that value of inclusivity, and I know that many of us need and have a right to a safe place to heal. You do not need to be a part of the queer community for me to work with you. If you are sensing that I would be a good fit for working with you, do not hesitate to schedule that 15-minute consultation here, and we can talk. What is important to me is if my skill sets and passions, what I’m good at, matches your need. If not, I’ll help you find someone who can help.

  • Absolutely. You don’t need to have anything figured out. Therapy can be a place to explore your identity without pressure or judgment.

  • Yes. If your faith or spiritual life is meaningful to you, I’m happy to hold space for that. We can integrate it into your healing in a way that supports your growth—not shame.

  • EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps you process stuck trauma, anxiety, and stress without having to relive it. It’s structured, but adaptable. I’ll explain each step and tailor it to your needs.

  • All my sessions are conducted virtually through secure and HIPAA-compliant platforms like Google Meet or TherapyNotes.

I know it can feel like a big step to call any therapist, but I’ll make it easy. We’ll spend 15-minutes on the phone and I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I am not the right person, I’ll do my best to get you to the right person.
